Going around the world globe

by guestpost on February 1, 2009

The earth’s surface is made up of tall mountain ranges, huge plains, deep canyons and large deserts; but the vast oceans stand out, making our planet appear blue. 71% of the earth’s surface is covered with water and amidst all this water, we make our homes. Isn’t that mind blowing? Even more mind blowing would be to get a world globe showing the above details. Where are the major oceans of the world? How do they compare in size? Where are the seven continents of the world? And how do they compare to each other in size? A world globe reveals all. Christopher Columbus was among the first to believe that the earth was round and that he could reach an eastern country like India by actually sailing westward and around the globe. Every time he reached a new island, he believed that he had reached India. He had actually underestimated how big the earth is. Ferdinand Magellan was the first to attempt to circumnavigate the earth; but he never made it. These great men did not have the resources that we have today. A world globe available in almost any novelty and stationery store today. We do not have to sail around the world to figure out the modalities that Columbus wanted to figure out.
