One of the best ways to highlight a piece of furniture is to adorn it with a gemstone inlay. This is usually done on table tops but gem stone inlay can also be done on cabinet doors. Use either a dark gemstone on dark wood to bring out the richness of the wood finish or a light one to provide an element of contrast. By and large gem stone inlay works best with darker woods. Inlay work must be perfectly executed leaving no gaps between the stone and the wood for dirt to accumulate or to allow the gem stone to work itself loose.
